Tottenham vs Chelsea: Match Preview (24th November)

Tottenham come into this London derby off the back of a tight 1-0 win over Palace at Selhurst Park before the International break.

They are currently 4th in the league, 1 point off the blues in 3rd position. But a win for Tottenham will move them 2 points ahead of Sarri’s men.

On the Other hand, Chelsea come into this London derby at wembley off the back of a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Everton before the International break.

A blues win here at Wembley will move them 4 points clear of Spurs.

If Chelsea want to be considered to be in a title race, then this is the sort of game that they need to win to make a statement to the rest of the league!

Team News

Tottenham

Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen may return from a hamstring injury but Davinson Sanchez faces a spell on the sidelines with a similar problem.

Kieran Trippier, Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele are also ruled out.

Christian Eriksen, who has been managing an abdominal injury, could reclaim a starting spot.

Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic should be available despite missing Croatia’s defeat by England on Sunday because of an ankle problem.

Blues head coach Maurizio Sarri also has a number of undisclosed injury doubts following the international break.

Manager Comments

Tottenham- Mauricio Pochettino

“We’re pushing players to the limit. The line between getting injured or not is so thin.

“We don’t realise that we’re playing with the health of the players. They’re human. It’s so tough. They are young. They need to enjoy life, too.

“They need to spend energy with families, kids, girlfriends. And the guys that are not with girlfriends need to go to try to find one.”

Chelsea- Maurizio Sarri

“At the moment, in the Premier League there is a team above the others. This team is Manchester City. Then there is a very good team, Liverpool. For sure, they will be in the first four positions.

“Then there are four or five teams who will have to fight for the Champions League places: Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, [Manchester] United, maybe somebody else.

“For me, they [Manchester City] are stronger than us at the moment. We have to work, we have to work very hard just to try to recover the gap. But, at the moment, the gap is still there.”

Head to Head/ Most recent meeting

These 2 sides have met 160 times in all competitions over the years, with Chelsea having the better head to head record with them obtaining 68 wins over Spurs. The Whites have beaten the blues 52 times, and there have been 40 draws between these 2 sides over the years.

The most recent meeting was last season where Tottenham recorded a famous 3-1 over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, to end their hoodoo of not winning at Stamford Bridge in 28 years.

However, in their most recent meeting at Wembley, a double brace from Marcos Alonso helped Antonio Conte’s Chelsea to a vital 2-1 win over Tottenham early on in the Premier League campaign last season.

Betting odds/my prediction

Bet 365 have made Sarri’s blues ever slight favourites for this game, with a Chelsea win being priced at 8/5. A home win for Spurs is being priced at 9/5, and a draw between these 2 sides is being priced at 5/2.

My Optimistic prediction for this game is a 1-3 Chelsea win. However, my realistic prediction for this encounter at Wembley tomorrow is a 2-2 draw.
